We wanted to create a peaceful and welcoming garden hidden in the West Dorset countryside.
From farming hands, a garden grows.
Having farmed in the Pilsdon area for their entire lifetime, Robert and Angela moved to the farm in 2005 and developed what was once an empty field of grass into what is now The Garden at Pilsdon.
Whilst the farm has been the primary focus during that time, by blending their passion for nature and cultivation with their connection to the land they have reflected the same practical care and patience throughout the garden.
An organic approach.
A traditional flock of sheep continues to graze the surrounding pastures. The gardens remain closely connected to the wider landscape, shaped by the rhythms of farming, the changing seasons and the natural character of West Dorset countryside.
Gardening here brings its own challenges. The heavy clay soil, combined with the wet conditions created by the nearby River Char, can make growing difficult for much of the year. Over time, the gardens have evolved in response to these conditions, creating a resilient and natural style of planting that reflects both the challenges and beauty of the landscape itself.
